Frequently asked questions for Landscape plan check, submittal, and Landscape permit. 

  1. What is the status of my plan check/permit?  Applicant should be able to see the status in Accela.   If the person that is requesting a status is not registered in Accela, the person must contact the applicant for the status  and/or access to Accela. 

  2. Can I schedule a landscape inspection? Yes, once the permit has been issued, applicant/contractor can schedule inspections through the City’s portal.  If the applicant/contractor has issues accessing Accela they can call the Planning Department for assistance at (909) 350-6718 or email at planning@fontanaca.gov
     
  3. Who is the landscape reviewer/inspector? Luis Villalobos, Senior Landscape Planner, performs plan check for all landscape construction documents and performs field inspection for all landscape related construction. 

  4. How long does it take for the Senior Landscape Planner to respond to me?  Because staff spends a significant amount of time performing inspections in the field, staff returns voice message and emails when he returns to the office in the order in which they were received; typical response times are between 24 to 48 hours. Please note that City Hall is closed on Fridays, weekends, and holidays.  

  5. How long does it take for my plans to get approved? 
    1. 1st plan check – 4 to 6 weeks
    2. 2nd plan check - 4 weeks
    3. 3rd plan check – 4 weeks
  6. How long does it take for my permit to be issued? Once all documents have been submitted and payment has been received, the permit should be issued between one (1) to two (2) days.

  7. List of items needed for applying for Landscape Permit
    1. Approved Landscape Plans
    2. Licensed Contractor with C or A License only (not B license)
    3. Business License with the City of Fontana
    4. Certificate of Liability Insurance-General liability naming the City of Fontana, Planning Department as additionally insured.
    5. Workers Compensation naming the City of Fontana, Planning Department as additionally insured.
  8. Is there a list of approved plant materials for the City of Fontana? The City has an approved tree list to be used within the right-of-way and is recommended to be used within the private property. The City does not have a preapproved plant material list. The City does have a list of plant materials that are not allowed due to poor performance within the City.

      All inspections require a minimum of 48 hours notice and inspections are not scheduled on Fridays, as all City Administrative Offices are closed every Friday.
