Problem-Based Learning

Through a dynamic classroom approach, program participants explore real world challenges to investigate complex questions of the 21st century. Program participants identify solutions that focus on meeting the needs of their community as well as improving their problem solving, collaboration skills, and overall attitude towards learning.

Project-Based Learning

When diving into different lesson plans, we like to keep program participants engaged into learning. Staff will help assist participants to define the problem, determine the cause, and identify the solution to preplanned projects. Projects also help in building teamwork skills, creativity, and confidence in program participants to be able to complete a variety of fun and engaging lessons.

Homework Assistance

Homework time is when program participants shine. Program participants are given 10 minutes at the beginning of homework time to work unassisted and put their minds to the test. This time is called "10 minutes of success". This challenge helps develop their problem solving skills. Afterward, FELP staff are happy to assist program participants with their homework Monday through Thursday for one hour daily.

Disguised Learning

We never let the opportunity pass that is not a learning one. Program participants engage in disguised learning activities including sports, mind building games, crafts, and clubs. We have experts in art, music, and ecology to make learning fun!
