Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) & Customer Resources

The City of Fontana does not operate or oversee electric utilities. For information and assistance related to power outages or Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS), residents should refer to Southern California Edison (SCE), the power utility company that serves our area. The resources below are provided to help our community prepare and stay informed.

What is a Public Safety Power Shutoff?

According to SCE, Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) is when an electric utility temporarily shuts off power to reduce the risk of a wildfire caused by electric infrastructure during extreme weather conditions. These shutoffs are initiated by Southern California Edison based on fire weather conditions such as high winds, dry vegetation, and low humidity.

Types of Power Outages

While many outages in high-risk fire areas are caused by PSPS events, outages can also occur for other reasons including equipment failure, vehicle collisions, weather damage, or scheduled maintenance. For real-time information about outages in your area, visit the SCE Outage Map at sce.com/outagemap.

Notifications

Due to the recent update of SCE's Wildfire Mitigation Plan, customers may receive more frequent notifications when weather conditions have the potential to trigger PSPS events. For real-time information about outages in your area, visit the SCE Outage Map at www.sce.com.

  • Build or update your emergency supply kit (water, food, flashlights, batteries, first aid kit, cash)
  • Charge your phones and keep backup batteries or power banks ready
  • Plan for medical needs: refrigerated medications, power-dependent devices, or backup oxygen
