Fontana Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
Are you ready for the next emergency or disaster? CERT training covers basic skills that are important to know in a disaster when emergency services are not available. With training and practice, and by working as a team, you will be able to protect yourself and maximize your capability to help for the greatest number of people after a disaster.
CERT trains volunteers in basic disaster response skills, such as:
- Fire safety
- Light search and rescue
- Team organization
- Disaster medical operations
CERT is a 24-hour training, usually split over 3 days. Learn more and access materials here.
Volunteering
Those that have taken a CERT class are eligible to submit an application to become a CERT volunteer with the City of Fontana. CERT Volunteers get access to additional training, help educate the public in preparedness through CERT and LISTOS classes and by doing community outreach at events, and are an invaluable resource for neighborhood preparedness during a disaster.
LISTOS Aware and Prepare
LISTOS Aware & Prepare is a free, 8-hour course (usually completed in one day). Originally developed by the Fire Services Training Institute (FSTI), this program was designed to bring accessible preparedness resources to Spanish-speaking communities. It is now offered in both English and Spanish statewide.
Designed to be:
- Organized by community members, for the benefit of their community
- A clear, practical introduction to preparedness basics
- Empowering—participants leave prepared to educate their friends and family
In Fontana, LISTOS serves as a family-friendly precursor or alternative to CERT, or as a fun refresher for home preparedness. Learn more here.
Other Preparedness Opportunities
LISTOS California Campaign
The State of California is currently running the LISTOS California campaign, which offers free block party kits to encourage neighbors to come together, share food, and learn simple preparedness steps in a fun, community-driven way.
