Plan Review

Reviewing Plans

The plan review process is an important aspect of Fire Prevention. Plans are required for the installation or modification of any fire protection system in any new or existing buildings. Plan Examiners review plans to insure that the Fire Code and applicable referenced standards are being followed, and to prevent unnecessary hazards.

Fire Prevention reviews and performs all inspections for the following systems:

  • Fire alarm systems
  • Underground fire protection water systems
  • Hood extinguishing systems
  • Fire sprinkler and standpipe systems
  • Above ground storage tanks
  • High piled combustible storage
  • Site plans
  • Fire Department apparatus
  • Placement of new fire hydrants

Fire Prevention works closely with the Planning Department, Building and Safety and local water companies to assure that the following criteria are met for new development:

  • Adequate water supplies are provided and distributed throughout new developments
  • Roads are constructed to enable fire apparatus access to areas within the development
  • Long-range planning is in place so that growth can occur while still considering Fire Department priorities and concerns
