Half Marathon Run Course (13.1 miles)
Recognized as the World’s Fastest Half Marathon Course by the USATF in 1985. The Half Marathon starting line is located at the Applewhite Campground in Lytle Creek. The first 6 miles of the Half Marathon include fast and steep, downhill running through the scenic San Bernardino National Forest and Lytle Creek Community. The last 7.1 miles of the course are also fast, but more of a moderate to gradual downhill run along Sierra Avenue towards Fontana City Hall. There is an elevation drop of 2,125 feet from start to finish. Participants must pass the 15 Freeway by 9:15 a.m. and finish line no later than 11 a.m.
5k Course (3.1 miles)
The 5K starting line is just north of Sierra Lakes Pkwy on Sierra Avenue. This is a fast 3.1 miles with a moderate to gradual downhill run/walk along Sierra Avenue traveling south towards Fontana City Hall.
Please note: The Race Walk is a competitive stride, which is judged by USATF Race Walk judges, not a powerwalk, a combination of running and walking.
Children's Half Mile Dash
The Children's Dash starting line is in front of Fontana City Hall on Sierra Avenue Participants "dash" from the starting line to Foothill Boulevard and back to the finish line in front of City Hall accompanied by City Staff. Children must participate in this event alone, no parents will be allowed on course. Please note that a parent or guardian must be present at the Children's Dash at all times.
Finish Line
All events finish at Fontana City Hall located at 8353 Sierra Avenue, Fontana, CA 92335. All clothing and runner bags are collected and taken back to the finish line by City staff. The City is not responsible for lost or stolen items. The Finish Line also includes Hospitality to rejuvenate participants, awards, medals, First Aid and a Finish Line Expo, full of exhibitors offering participants and spectators free samples as well as items for purchase.
Bag Check
Bags may be checked into the Bag Claim area at the finish line before loading buses. All participants will also have the opportunity to check their bag at both starting lines. Labels and markers will be provided by City staff to write your name and bib number on all of your belongings. We encourage participants to use their goodie bag as a means to place any loose articles. Please do not take any valuables to the starting line. Any lost or stolen items are not the responsibility of event staff, the City of Fontana or its affiliates. "Clothing Drop Stations" will also be provided on the Half Marathon course for any articles that you may need to discard due to the heat. This station will be located before mile 4. Only labeled items will be returned to participants at the bag claim. Any unmarked items will be donated to local charities; be sure to clearly label your belongings. All bags follow the last participant on the course; please plan accordingly.
