The first day of school is August 24
In alignment with guidance from the Governor's office, All FUSD students will receive online instruction when we begin the school year on August 24, 2020. No further action is required for your student to receive online instruction.
Flexible Learning Program
Under this option, we will begin the school year with the 100% Distance Learning Model. Students will work with teachers from their school online. Teachers will provide daily live interaction with students, using tools such as Microsoft Teams, to help students learn and complete their studies. Students will be responsible for participating in group classes as well as complete work on their own. They will be expected to complete and turn in all assignments for grading. Teachers will offer 'Student Support Hours', a time where they would be available to answer student and parent questions.
All students in grades TK-12th will receive a laptop.

The first day of school is August 7
School sites will schedule drive-through textbook, Chromebook, and material pick-ups between August 4 and 6.
In response to the Governor's order regarding school reopening, students registered for the hybrid learning model will start the school year with virtual classroom instruction.
Virtual Learning Model
Students will learn at home in a structured virtual format. Teachers will utilize a variety of instructional strategies including scheduled interactive whole class and small group instruction in addition to independent work. Multiple virtual classroom sessions will be held throughout each school day and attendance is compulsory. Students earn grades on assignments and report cards as they would in the traditional school setting.
Hybrid Learning Model
The hybrid learning model combines on-campus and at-home learning. Students will attend school half day in the morning or afternoon Tuesday-Friday and then students will be assigned independent work to be completed for the remainder of the school day and on Mondays. The schedule will be based on students' last names with A-L attending in the morning and M-Z attending in the afternoon. (Students in Special Day Class attend four full days.) Students earn grades on assignments and report cards as they would in the traditional school setting. (Schedule changes will be considered if openings are available.)
Families of students registered for the hybrid learning model will receive information about the return to on-campus learning as soon it is available.
Home School
Students learn at home and progress is monitored by a teacher who regularly checks in with families. Optional virtual or on-site tutoring sessions are available for students. Families may choose which of the following curriculum paths best meets their needs: EASE Home School: Students flexibly engage in the online K12.com platform. Final pass/fail or letter grades will be assigned at the end of each trimester. Families who select this option need to submit an intradistrict transfer form. Home School Independent Study: Students complete flexible month-to-month independent study units created with district adopted curriculum at home under parent supervision. Final pass/fail grades will be assigned at the end of each trimester.

Hybrid/Distance Learning
When school districts offer distance learning, it is the offer of at-home, virtual, hybrid, blended, or remote instruction overseen by a school principal and credentialed teachers as the primary instructors. Due to concerns regarding COVID-19, and guidance from the San Bernardino County Public Health Department, CJUSD plans to begin the 2020-2021 school year in Distance Learning and transition to Hybrid Learning when it is safe for students to physically return to school.
Remote Learning Entire Year
Elementary Model (Grades TK - 6): Full Year Distance Learning
For families that choose not to have their elementary (grades TK-6) student(s) physically return to school campuses during the 2020-2021 school year, CJUSD will be offering full-time distance learning for grades TK-6. Students engage in daily online learning provided by teachers who develop digital platforms and a variety of modes of communication for teaching and learning. Students are given the opportunity to be a part of a virtual classroom, engage with peers, be accountable for learning, receive targeted and intensive support when they struggle with learning, and be acknowledged and celebrated when they accomplish growth and mastery in learning.
Secondary Model (Grades 7-12): Full Year Facilitated Online Learning
For families that choose not to have their secondary (grades 7-12) student(s) physically return to school campuses during the 2020-2021 school year, CJUSD will be offering full time online facilitated learning for grades 7-12. Facilitated learning is an alternative to classroom instruction consistent with our district’s course of study and is an online, self-paced curriculum using an online platform. Students are expected to meet the same educational objectives as all other students

The first day of school is August 5
There are two instructional programs that present alternative schedules and structures in Phase I (distance learning) and Phase 2 (hybrid schedule). The District may move between these two phases as the COVID-19 circumstances warrant in our District. In Phases 3 and 4, schools begin to reopen in a more traditional setting when all students attend school every day.
Distance Learning
Distance learning means instruction in which the student and instructor are in different locations. This may include interacting through the use of a computer and communications technology, as well as delivering instruction and check-in time with teachers.
Monday
The school day begins at 7:45 a.m.. Teachers will provide the weekly instructional plan and students begin their studies. Students will check-in with 2nd period teachers at 12:15 for attendance. Teachers will be available for instructional support from 12:35 to 2:35 for office hours, tutoring, meetings with students, and if permitted, on-campus rehearsals, practices, and meetings for specified student groups.
Tuesday through Friday
Students attend school virtually in a block schedule. Each day begins with time for students to log in to Canvas to access the week's learning tasks and to check-in for attendance. Teachers may schedule synchronous instruction (virtual in-person instruction for all) and/or asynchronous instruction (independent learning or learning in groups).
Canvas
Canvas is the platform used as the primary method of communication and delivery of instructional materials for students from the school and their teachers.
