The Fontana Police Department launched its Body Worn Camera (BWC) Program with the deployment of 200 body worn cameras in the summer of 2017. After two years of research, on-going discussions with industry experts and community members, participating in product demonstrations and testing a variety of cameras the Fontana Police Department developed a Body Worn Camera Program that utilizes the latest technology to assist in criminal prosecutions, civil litigations and enhance public trust.
- In 2015, Fontana Police and San Bernardino Police Department, together received a grant from the Department of Justice for $546,502 to purchase BWC's.
- The grant included parameters for the BWC policy
- The BWC policy also received feedback from community panel groups, departmental labor groups and city attorneys
- The BWC policy will evolve based on on-going feedback
