The Investigations Unit conducts in-depth criminal investigations that are too complex or time consuming for the patrol unit, or require highly specialized attention. Detectives identify and arrest criminal suspects and prepare cases for successful prosecution in the court system.
The Investigations Unit is made up of the following teams:
- General Detective Teams- There are two teams and each team is led by a sergeant. They investigate crimes against property as well as crimes against persons, including homicides. A faction of the teams are on call 24/7 to respond to assist patrol when necessary.
- Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC)/ Sex Crimes Team- Led by a sergeant. This team investigates all sex crimes reported to the department. They also investigate internet crimes against children as part of an FBI supported task force.
- Fugitive Apprehension Team- Led by a sergeant. This team is an undercover team that assists detectives with apprehensions, surveillance, and search warrant services.
- Field Evidence Technicians - Conduct crime scene evidence collection as well as lab work and evidence comparison.
- Computer/Cell Phone Forensics Technicians - Assist detectives and patrol with computer and cell phone investigations.
